Dan's Brainy Bunch
Dear Friends, Family, and Colleagues,
On Saturday November 2, 2019 we will gather, once again, at The North Collier Regional Park in Naples, Florida, just off of Livingston Road, for our 9th Annual “Walk the Talk for Epilepsy Awareness”.
As many of you are aware, our son Danny has Intractable Epilepsy. Danny continues to battle with his seizures and the side effects of his medications on a daily basis.
We have learned stress, fatigue, and lack of sleep trigger Dan’s seizures. Our family’s mission is to continue to try to turn Dan’s battle with epilepsy into educating the public about epilepsy and teaching others like himself how to live day to day with Epilepsy.
Over the past several months we have learned of several people like actor Cameron Boyce’s sad unexpected tragic passing due to a seizure stemmed from his epilepsy.
1 in 10 Americans will have a seizure in their lifetime.
1 in 26 people in the United States will have epilepsy at some point in their life.
5.1 million people in the United States have been diagnosed with epilepsy or a seizure disorder in the past.
3.4 million American adults and children live with epilepsy.
Epilepsy costs the United States about $15.5 billion in healthcare and other expenses.
60% of epilepsy cases have no known cause.
30-40% will live with active seizures because available treatments do not work.
Our efforts here in Naples have “made a difference” in the lives of people living with Epilepsy! Your donations have made it possible to provide funds for children in our area to go to camp at Camp Boggy Creek, medical, social, youth, prevention, and educational programs. Living with epilepsy has many different challenges and finding the needed help and guidance can be tough. Our “Naples Epilepsy Resource Center”, does just that.
The Naples Epilepsy Resource Center, which is located inside the Naples YMCA is there to provide a comfortable environment for people with epilepsy and their caregivers to find the necessary resources and guidance to help them manage their everyday life. You will find our son Danny there every day helping those in need.
We ask everyone to help us continue to raise the awareness of epilepsy and donate to this great cause that is so vital to our community. We can’t do this without you. Your donations will be so meaningful to so many!
With much gratitude,
Danny, Lizzie and Burt
